Module 5: Digital Storytelling

1-What is Digital Storytelling?

Digital storytelling is the practice of using computer-based tools to tell stories

Educational Uses of Digital Storytelling

One of the first decisions to be made is whether the teacher will create the Digital Stories or have their students do it. Thus, teachers may decide to create their own stories and show them to their students as a way to present new material.

Tips for integrating digital storytelling into your classroom:

·   Ease your students into sharing information about themselves by doing a fun icebreaker activity such as Show and Tell with a Cell!

· HaVe students plot ideas in a storyboard. You may find interesting some fantastic storyboarding worksheets here.

·   Break your students into small groups and while they are creating their characters and drawing the scenes elicit vocabulary from them.

·         There exist hundreds of webtools to create stories under a multiplicity of formats. This is only an approximation to the most used resources for storytellers:

Doodlecast:
Doodlecast is a drawing app that records your voice as you draw. Kids can choose from prompts or start a drawing from scratch. The app records the drawing process along with audio to create videos up to three minutes long.

Storyrobe:
This is an app that allows you to share your story with other Storyrobe users. You can add to existing stories to create longer tales of travel, events or history or you can create your own.


StoryPatch:
Storypatch is a storytelling app designed for children to create their own picture books. It has hundreds of images in it’s library as well as the ability to import photos.


ComicStrip:
Create your very own comic book page using photos from your camera roll or takes new ones in-app. With this fun and unique layouts and caption bubbles, anyone can create the story they have always wanted to tell.




PuppetPals:
Create your own animated stories. Simply pick out the characters, drag them onstage and tap record. Movements and audio is recorded for your performance. .


Reel Director:
This is a powerful video app that allows you to create, edit and share movie clips on your iPad. .


Strip Designer:
This is a comic strip creation with included page templates.
